Established in 1959 by Luis A. Ferré (1904 – 2003), Museo de Arte de Ponce has become the art museum in Puerto Rico with the greatest international recognition and a cultural meeting place for the local community. The Sense of Beauty: Six Centuries of Painting from Museo de Arte de Ponce, the institution’s first major exhibition in over a decade, presents a selection of sixty paintings by European, Puerto Rican, and North American artists that illustrates the evolution of the museum’s collection and the fulfillment of Ferré’s vision.
This bilingual (English/Spanish) and fully illustrated catalogue was published to accompany the exhibition. It features a curatorial essay that focuses on the museum’s history and development of its collection, along with entries for each of the paintings, written by scholars from Puerto Rico and the United States.
